Privacy
Privacy
The short version: there are no accounts, your game stays on your phone, and we don’t sell data or track what you play.
Last updated
In plain words
- No sign-up, no email address, no password.
- Names, settings and your game are saved in your browser on this device, and nowhere else.
- The game never sends what you play anywhere: not your names, answers, cards, levels or matches.
- Ads appear only in one small spot on the homepage and on our articles, never in the game.
- Our public pages use Google Analytics to count visits. The game and Desire Match don’t load it at all.
Who we are
Kindling is run from Singapore. We have a Data Protection Officer under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). For anything about privacy, email kindling.cards@gmail.com.
No accounts
You don’t sign up, log in or give us an email address to play. We don’t know who you are, and we don’t need to.
What’s stored on this device
To make the game work, Kindling saves a few things in your browser’s storage on this device. We can’t see any of it, and it isn’t sent anywhere.
| What | Why | How to delete it |
|---|---|---|
| Your first names | So cards can say whose turn it is | In the game: Pause, then “Forget our game”. Or the button below. |
| Settings | Daylight or Candlelight, pace, the level to stop after, and topics you switched off, so you don’t have to set them again | “Forget our game” (it keeps only your Daylight or Candlelight choice), or the button below |
| The current game | So you can pick up where you left off if the phone locks or the page reloads | “Forget our game”, or the button below |
| Your journal | Cards and nights you chose to keep | “Forget our game”, or the button below |
| Custom cards | Cards you write yourselves | “Forget our game”, or the button below |
| Cards you’ve seen or ruled out | So new cards come first, and a card you marked “Not for us” never comes back | “Forget our game”, or the button below |
| Desire Match results | The matches you chose to save, so you can see them again and play them in your game. Your individual answers are never saved. | “Forget our game”, or the button below |
| An offline copy of the site | Pages, styles and card files, so the game works without a connection. Contains nothing about you. | Clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings |
Clearing this site’s data in your browser’s settings removes all of the above at once.
Delete everything on this device
Removes your names, settings, current game, journal, custom cards, the cards you’ve seen or ruled out, and Desire Match results from this browser. It can’t be undone.
What the game never sends
Nothing you type or play leaves your device: not your names, your answers, which cards you played or kept, which levels you reached, or your Desire Match choices. There’s no server that could receive them.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we get your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply, fix problems you report, and consider card ideas or advertising enquiries. The emails are kept in our Gmail account, run by Google, and we delete them about 12 months after the conversation ends, or sooner if you ask.
Donations
If you chip in, the donation platform handles the whole payment (we use Buy Me a Coffee). Its own privacy policy applies to the details you give it. We receive only what that platform shares with creators, which is usually your name or username, the amount, and any message you add. We use it to say thank you and keep our accounts, and nothing else. We keep donation records for as long as Singapore tax law requires us to keep business records, currently five years.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they find useful. It runs on our public pages only: the homepage, the articles, and the support, safety and legal pages. The game and Desire Match don’t load it, so nothing about what you play (names, cards, levels, answers or matches) is ever sent to Google or to us.
On those public pages, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google processes this for us, including outside Singapore. We use it only to see how the site is used and to improve it, and we don’t combine it with anything else.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland don’t get analytics cookies unless they agree; Google may still receive basic, cookieless signals. Anyone can switch analytics off for this browser with the button below, or with Google’s opt-out add-on. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Ads
Ads appear only in one small, labelled spot on the homepage and on our article pages: the questions for couples and the date-night guide. Never in the game, Desire Match, the support page or this page. If we have a sponsor, the support page may also name them in a labeled box, and the end-of-night screen may show one labeled “Sponsor” line. Both are plain links: nothing is loaded from the sponsor and nothing is tracked.
Most of the time those spots show our own promotions or a sponsor we picked. The spots themselves load nothing from anyone else, and sponsored links are always labeled. (Google Analytics, described above, is separate.)
If we switch on Google ads, then on the homepage and those article pages only, Google and its partners may use cookies or device identifiers to show ads, measure them, prevent fraud and, where you allow it, personalize them. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent first, through a Google-certified consent tool, and can change their choice at any time. To learn more, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can manage ad personalisation in Google’s ad settings.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, and may keep short-lived logs for that. It never receives what you play, because that never leaves your device. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Your rights
Because your game data stays on your device, we hold nothing about it to access, correct or delete; you can delete it yourself at any time with “Forget our game”.
For anything we do hold (your emails to us, and donation records), you can ask our Data Protection Officer at kindling.cards@gmail.com to see it, correct it, or stop us using it, and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you withdraw consent, we’ll stop using your data except where the law requires us to keep it (such as tax records).
Some of the services we use (Google for email, Cloudflare for hosting, Buy Me a Coffee for donations) process data outside Singapore. We use established providers that protect personal data to a standard comparable to the PDPA. If we ever had a data breach affecting you, we would tell the Personal Data Protection Commission and you, as the law requires.
If you’re not happy with how we handled your data, you can complain to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission. If you’re in the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Adults only
Kindling is for adults aged 21 and over. It isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
Changes
If anything here changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
